Denise Enan - Artistic Director

World-renowned master of Egyptian dance, Denise trained in ballet from the age of four with the Russion Bolchoi and was among the first generation of dancers accepted into the dance school of the National Folkloric Troupe of Egypt (Firqa Kawmiya), where she met her future husband, fellow dancer Ahmed Enan. Denise quickly rose to become a principal dancer with the Kawmiyya, as well as being responsible for teaching the troupe repertoire to new members; counted among her students are prestigeous names such as Dawlat Ibrahim, Faten Salama, Freiz Sayed and Lubna Imam, among countless others. Denise has travelled the world over several times as as an acclaimed performer and workshop instructor.

Ahmed ''Amido'' Enan - Choreographer

Ahmed is an award winning choreographer, and was a principal dancer with Firqua Kawmiyya (National Folkloric Troupe of Egypt), where he met his wife Denise (Tawfiq) Enan. Ahmed trained in gymnastics as a youth and belonged to the first generation of Kawymiyya dancers. Ahmed served as a filmographer, photographer and researcher of regional folk dances for the Egyptian Ministry of Culture's Folklore Centre, which served as a resource and inspiration for the stage choreographies of the National Troupe and Reda Dance Troupe in Egypt. Together Denise and Ahmed have toured the world and performed for Emperors, Kings and Presidents.

 

Janet Gale - Principle Dancer

Janet is the longest standing member in the troupe's history, joining the group in 1985 after three years of studying Egyptian Oriental and Folkloric dance with Denise Enan. Since then Janet has performed in countless shows, festivals and weddings with the troupe including travel to other venues such as Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City and New York state. Janet's many years of experience and knowledge of the repertoire eventually led to her being principal dancer with the group.

Janet contributes to costume design and is responsible for costume construction, having graduated from the Richard Robinson School of Fashion Design in Ottawa. She also assists Denise and Ahmed in teaching the troupe repertoire to newer members.

Evvy Bures - Dancer

Evelyn Bures began belly dancing in 1991 with Denise Enan.  She was deeply inspired by the beauty and skill of her teacher and joined the Enan Egyptian Dance Troupe in 1993.  The fascinating Middle Eastern choreographies, intricate costumes and group experience cannot be duplicated by any other physical art form.  The Egyptian movements, as taught by Denise, are rich with meaning and physical details.  Evelyn has been teaching belly dance since 1993 and continues to learn and enjoy every aspect of the dance.

 

Ginette "Gilane" Yassa - Dancer

Ginette was asked to join the troupe after two years of studying oriental dance with Denise Enan and has been a member since 1989. She has performed with the group in many shows, festivals and weddings.

Ginette is also a teacher at the Studio Oasis and specializes in giving mini workshops geared to the beginner and intermediate I level; teaching technique and a dance routine.

 

Farida - Dancer

Farida trained as a figure skater in her youth and started Oriental dance in 1999 with Denise Enan. Farida teaches at the Dance Oasis and also performs professionally in restaurants, at weddings, and for other special occasions.

Jocelyne "Jehane" Khan - Dancer

Jocelyne trained in ballet, tap and jazz as a child and began Oriental dance in 1996, taking classes and special workshops with several instructors in Canada, the USA and Egypt. She began lessons with Denise Enan in 2001 and joined the Enan Egyptian Troupe in 2002. Jocelyne teaches at Dance Oasis and also performs as a soloist and with the Oriental collective Banaat al Waha at Arabic weddings and other special occasions in the greater Ottawa area.

Johanne ''Johara'' D'Aoust - Dancer

Johara began her dance career in modern and jazz. In 2001, she started Belly dancing with Denise Enan. She has taken workshops with Luna, Faten Salama and Hadia. In June 2007, she took a series of workshops at the Nile Group Festival in Cairo with world-renowned instructors Hassan Khalil, Freiz Sayed, Liza Laziza and Asmahan. Johara teaches Belly dance at Dance Oasis. An alluring and fluid dancer, she also performs solo at weddings and special occasions.

Catherine Champoux (Amira) - Dancer

Catherine trained in jazz ballet as a child and began oriental dance in 2004 with Denise Enan. She took workshops with Aziza, Luna, Cassandra, Nathalie Lebel and Kariyya Maazin, in Egypt . Other interests are Arabic drumming (darbuka) and flamenco. Catherine now teaches oriental dance at Oasis Studio while continuing to enhance her technique with Denise Enan or other talented teachers. She is available for special evenings, weddings and performances in restaurants.

 

Mylene Laplante - Dancer

Mayada began her training in Oriental dance in 2001 with Ariane "Rania" Monfils. She has taken workshops with Aziza and Kami Liddle of the Bellydance Superstars. In 2004, she began studying Tribal Bellydance, which resulted in the creation of the Tribal Fusion group DezDaemone; this group won the National prize in "CEGEP en Spectacle" talent competition in 2007. In addition to teaching, Mayada performs for weddings, fundraisers and other events in the region.

 

Annie Fontaine - Dancer

Annie was introduced to Oriental dance in 2001 by Ariane Monfils. Impassioned by the dance, she quickly began classes with Denise Enan to improve her technique. Since then, always remaining loyal to her first teachers, she has taken workshops with several instructors, such as Aziza and Nathalie Lebel to broaden her knowledge and skills before beginning to teach her own classes in 2005. Learning Egyptian folklore and joining the Enan troupe in 2006 has reinforced her love for this wonderful dance-form.
